Caroline is a truly formidable opponent. She uses her right arm flawlessly, but her backhand strokes with both hands are also incredibly powerful. Her forehands are balanced and effective, and her backhands no less so. She is capable of hard, clear strikes. In play her concentration is high and she can play long and difficult matches without getting distracted. At the same time Caroline is a big fan of Istanbul. “I`ve been to Istanbul several times, ” says Wozniacki. “It`s a fabulous city. The people are extremely warm and friendly, the restaurants and shopping alternatives are excellent. The city center is beautiful and chock full of history. ” Wozniacki points out that it`s extremely important that the championship is being held in Istanbul and says she is very excited about playing in front of thousands of Turkish spectators.

You attracted a lot of attention as an accomplished doubles player, but now you`ve been focusing on singles for a while. What led you to that decision?

Singles was always my priority but since my early success was in doubles, people thought I was more focused on that. I still enjoy playing doubles but have found more success on the singles court since I started playing in only select tournaments.

Swimming is another sport in which Australians have made a name for themselves internationally. Would you have been a swimmer if you hadn`t been a tennis player?

Passionate

I really like to watch all sports and am passionate whenever Australians are competing. I`ve been focused on tennis since I was a young girl, but I love getting down to the ocean and swimming, surfing and generally having fun in the water.

Where does this habit of giving names to your rackets come from?

I do not actually give all my rackets a name, but I do write notes to myself on the inside of my racket to remind me of what I am trying to do in the match. It is usually something very simple that my coach and I are focusing on.
